Celebrated Canadian writer Wayson Choy will discuss his experience in managing his illness and the important role his health-care team played in his recovery at a conference on solutions to self-managing care at Ryerson University. Choy will give the morning keynote address at the symposium, Self-Managing Care: From Ideas to Solutions - Healthy Connections Conference 2010. He will also talk about his gratitude towards his health-care providers as one of the central themes of his new book, Not Yet: A Memoir of Living and Almost Dying. The day-long conference will also feature health-care experts and health coaches from hospitals and community agencies across Canada and the U.S. They will offer solutions to people with chronic ailments on how they can work with health-care providers to manage their condition so they can lead full, active lives. Health-care practitioners can also learn how they can help clients regain their confidence using motivational strategies while being supportive and sensitive to their needs.
