A: No, only His Royal Highness Prince Charles will be visiting Ryerson.
Q: Where on the Ryerson campus is the visit taking place?
A: Prince Charles is doing a tour of Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone.
Q: Will Prince Charles tour the campus?
A: No, his visit will be limited to the Digital Media Zone.
Q: Can I attend the event?
A: Due to space limitations and necessary security protocols, attendance will be very limited.
For those unable to attend, Ryerson will be broadcasting the Royal visit live to the AMC Theatres from 11 AM to Noon on May 22nd. Student, staff and faculty who are interested in attending the simulcast will be required to show their One Card to gain admittance to the AMC Theatres. The theatre will open at 10:30 AM and the live broadcast is expected to start at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Ryerson and DMZ staff will also be taking photos, posting updates, and images to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook so all those interested can follow along.
Q: What’s the purpose of the Royal visit?
A: The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall accepted an invitation from the Government of Canada to tour Canada in May. The Tour marks the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (60 years) and it includes stops in New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
Q: Will anything be announced as part of this event – partnerships, funding, etc.
A: No announcements are planned as part of this event. The goal of this tour is to provide an introduction for His Royal Highness to Ryerson University and to share some of the successes of the Ryerson community.
Q: Why was Ryerson chosen?
A: Ryerson University was chosen as a tour location because it is a Canadian leader in innovative, career-oriented education. The diverse projects of the Digital Media Zone in particular speak directly to The Prince of Wales’ long-standing interest in forward-thinking organizations helping to fully realize the potential and talent of young people.
Q: Is Prince Charles meeting Ryerson students?
A: Yes, as part of his tour Prince Charles will meet with a number of Ryerson students and alumni.
Q: Can I meet Prince Charles?
A: Unfortunately, due to matters of security and timing, only a few Ryerson students, staff and faculty will have the opportunity to meet The Prince.

Q: When will we know who from the Ryerson community is attending the event?
A: We are currently assembling our list of attendees. We should have a final list by mid-May.
Q: Have the people that get to meet Prince Charles been notified?
A: Yes, the students, alumni, faculty and staff who will be meeting Prince Charles have been notified.
Q: Who made the decision as to what Ryerson representatives will be involved?
A: The decision was made by the provincial and federal governments leading the tour, in conjunction with Clarence House (The Prince’s representatives).
Q: Why wasn’t I (my team/ faculty/ students/researchers) included in the visit? My research team at Ryerson is also working with students and doing innovative work.
A: Many Ryerson teams and research groups are doing very worthy, innovative work, the provincial and federal government, in consultation with Clarence House (The Prince’s representatives), determined the itinerary for this event.
Given the very limited time constraints for this visit and the security logistics involved, only a select few staff, students, alumni and faculty were chosen to meet Prince Charles; their work reflects a variety of ongoing projects, technologies and industries relating to Prince Charles’ particular interests in environmental sustainability, technical innovation and job creation.
Q: Ryerson is a public institution, how can attendance be limited?
A: The parameters for this tour, including number of attendees, are being determined by the federal government tour organizers. There are very strict security guidelines and protocols that Ryerson must follow.
Q: What will be the outcome of this visit?
A: This visit will further raise the profile of Ryerson University, its students and successful alumni.
Q: Will the Royal Tour limit access to the Ryerson campus?
A: Some DMZ teams will be displaced from the 5th floor of the DMZ about a week in advance of the Royal visit. All other areas of the Ryerson campus will be operating as usual.
Q: Is my tuition going towards paying for this event?
A: No student tuition is going towards this event. The majority of the costs associated with the event are being covered by the federal and provincial governments.
