David Ticoll, one of Canada's leaders in information technology and business strategy, has been named distinguished visiting scholar at Ryerson's G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.

David Ticoll, one of Canada’s leading authorities on technology and business innovation, has joined Ryerson University’s G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar. His one-year appointment is effective immediately.

“Ryerson is deeply honoured to have David join our academic community,” says John Isbister, Interim Provost and Vice President Academic. “His powerful ideas in information technology and business strategy will dovetail nicely with the university’s mission to be an incubator for our future innovators and entrepreneurs.”

With more than three decades as a business/technology entrepreneur, researcher, and policy analyst, Ticoll is a thought leader on the impacts of emerging technologies on individuals, organizations, and society itself. Until recently, he was founding executive director of the Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow’s ICT Skills, where he continues to function as special advisor. He is a member of the Program Advisory Committee, Business Technology Management, at Ryerson’s Ted Rogers School of Management, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Information Technology Association of Canada. He was founder and CEO of Digital 4Sight, a Toronto-based international research firm and think-tank.

Ticoll authored several best-selling business books, including Digital Capital: Harnessing the Power of Business Webs (with Don Tapscott and Alex Lowy) and The Naked Corporation: How the Age of Transparency will Revolutionize Business (with Tapscott). He was a weekly business/technology columnist at the Globe and Mail for two years.

“With David’s knowledge and expertise in digital media, he will help The Chang School examine continuing and post-secondary education in an era of digital and online learning” says Gervan Fearon, Dean of The Chang School, a leading provider of online courses in Canada.

“I am delighted to join one of Canada’s leading post-secondary education innovators,” says Ticoll. “The opportunities of digitally enabled education are accelerating. Developments like massively open online courses, pervasive social media, mobile devices and the explosion of subject matter areas all accelerate the pace of change. I look forward to working with colleagues at The Chang School and Ryerson University on how this expanding set of developments will shape our future.”
