About 13,000 Ryerson students are eligible for the 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant (OTG) program launched last week by the Ontario government and will receive $800 off the remainder of this year’s tuition.
Students who receive OSAP will automatically be considered for the tuition rebate and students who do not receive OSAP can still apply and receive the grant if they are eligible.
Eligibility criteria are set by the Ontario government and include:
· full-time undergraduate study at a public college or university in Ontario (60 per cent course load or 40 per cent for students with disabilities)
· less than four years since leaving high school
· enrolled in a first entry program
· parents’ combined 2010 total income is $160,000 or less
· Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person with protected person's status document (PPSD) papers
· Ontario resident.
“Many Ryerson students are going to benefit from this program, which provides a substantial amount of financial assistance and I would encourage any student who is not receiving OSAP and who thinks that they may be eligible to apply,” said President Sheldon Levy.
Starting in September 2012, the 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant will be worth $1600/year. Students can receive the grant for up to four years of study in an undergraduate program. Students with disabilities may receive the grant for up to six years of study.

Ryerson’s Student Financial Aid office is distributing flyers and bookmarks around campus with details about the program.
At Ryerson, it is estimated that more than 13,000 students could qualify for the grant, or about 60 per cent of full-time undergraduate students. For the winter 2012 term, the government is administering the program; students already receiving OSAP will be considered automatically, and other eligible students can apply online until the deadline of March 31, 2012 with cheques being mailed four to six weeks later. Subsequently, beginning in 2012-13, universities and colleges will be working with government to incorporate the grant within the tuition fee structure.
