Lawrence S. Bloomberg will be installed as Ryerson’s fourth chancellor on Nov. 28.

On Nov. 28 community members are invited to the installation of the university’s fourth chancellor, Lawrence S. Bloomberg.

The installation takes place at 3 p.m. on the second floor of the Mattamy Athletic Centre and will be followed by an open house reception beginning at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge on the fourth floor. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the installation and open house.

The installation ceremony is similar to a graduation convocation with a procession of officials and faculty.  Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services will participate and carry the Eagle Staff, the traditional flag of First Nations people that was presented to the university in May. Congratulatory messages from universities across the country will be acknowledged. The chair of the Board of Governors, Phyllis Yaffe, will administer the oath to the new chancellor and students, faculty and staff, along with President Sheldon Levy, will provide welcoming remarks. Bloomberg will deliver his first speech as chancellor during the ceremony.

Bloomberg is a distinguished philanthropist and accomplished Canadian business leader. He’s chair of the Board of Directors of BloombergSen Inc., an investment counselling firm. He is a director of the National Bank of Canada and is currently an advisor to National Bank Financial.
