Director's Note
It's not an easy thing to sing in public. It takes courage and vulnerability to share the human voice. That's why I love working with performers who sing. It's my job to help them find that special body-mind connection, to encourage them to be playful and to share themselves and their work with the audience in a spirit of exuberant generosity.
This incredible group of third year performers has dazzled me with all of the qualities that I've mentioned above. I'm even more impressed by their sense of themselves as members of an ensemble and the care that they show each other in this regard. They've been truly inspiring to be around.
Cabaret means many things and has served many functions throughout its fabulous and subversive history. What I love the most is the atmosphere it creates: a balance between the grotesque and the beautiful; between laughter and tears. I love the intimate feeling that cabaret creates when we're all gathered together in a room, making sounds, shaking our bodies, celebrating a little bit of that vertiginous exuberance we can all feel sometimes just by being alive.
I hope you enjoy our music as much as we enjoyed making it for you.
